Abstract

Social media contents are syncretic objects endowed with a dual plastic and figurative nature. They are the product of a collective enunciational praxis grounded in mechanisms of citation, repetition, and variation of recurring iconic patterns: a repertoire of visual or audiovisual templates that regulate the representation of objects and events. Such representational devices or, in some cases, devices of non-representation, such as the ‘empty’ grids characteristic of certain Generation Alpha Instagram profiles, define the social interface of enunciation, contributing to the formation of recognizable styles associated with specific platforms or rhetorical regimes. In this context, postmedial photography functions as an interface between expression and content (as level and as text), between gesture and style, between use and memory.
