By way of introduction to this issue on “Photography and Environment,” this article discusses certain aspects of the Italian debate of the 1980s, especially in regards to the dialectics between notions of “landscape” and “environment”. The following section provides a brief summary of the contributions to this issue, ranging from the El Lissitzky’s biocentric approach in the 1920s to present-day photographic projects related to the New Climatic Regime.
