La fotografia in Giuseppe Chiari, tra documentazione e opera autonoma

Francesca Gallo (Sapienza Università di Roma)

Abstract

Giuseppe Chiari progressively included photography in his artistic armamentarium, both in function of an explicit performative dimension and in relation to a peculiar conceptual declination of his work. From the wealth of this documentation, a number of series related to Che cos’è l’arte (1975) and Gesti sul piano (1972-1977) have emerged, whose comparison shows the photographers’ peculiar way of observing – more focused on the isolated interpreter or more environmental and contextual – and the conditioning of these visual sources in the subsequent reception of the work and therefore in its historicization.
